Where do I begin?

This is my fourth day living in The Lion City, Singapore. I miss home! I miss my comfy bed (although I have the same queen-sized bed here)! It's different.. without my bolster. I miss mom's potatoes with pork. I miss mom's missed calls every other morning when she didn't see me downstairs after 7:40 AM. How's my brother doing with his Add Maths? Maybe Ling-cha won't complain I'm slow-poke when I get home this weekend? Has my bedroom been invaded? Bit-cha must be dreaming of me now!

There are just so many things to tell but I am sitting here, wondering where to begin. First of, I don't have Internet access just yet but I got lucky tonight to be able to piggyback on someone else's wireless network.
Hmmm.. I guess I'll lump everything at one go.

Firstly, let's see what happened on 15th Aug. I revealed this blog and presented the Roti Canai to him!

Almost there!

And, on The Day, I had to rush to Shaw Towers after work to get my employment contract signed. I did not have trouble getting there at all because I had a rehearsal the day before! Haha. Thanks to my official tour agent a.k.a. Mr. Low Kean Cheong! Left office at about 5:20 PM, reached Shaw Towers at 6:30 PM sharp, went through a series of agreement signing procedure and briefings on the contract and left the tower at 7:30 PM. On my way to the MRT station, I stopped by at The Coffee Connoisseur in Bugis to get a slice of cake. I had earlier scouted for a bakery when I was walking to Shaw Towers. As soon as I walked in, I asked if they have candles because I doubted if they would have one to spare as it's not even a bakery. I wanted to get this so much simply because there was no candle on top of the Mille Crepe the other day. I got a Chocolate Cheese, packed with a small candle and quickly rushed to the MRT station. Finally reached VivoCity at 8:20 PM! I let him choose the dinner place and he chose to have a simple dinner at Subway to save time.

After the quick dinner, he brought me to the rooftop sky park in VivoCity. We found a cosy place to sit, facing Sentosa Island. When we began to light the candle, a group of ladies, sitting not too far from us started singing Happy Birthday to him. Haha. Thank you, ladies! So, we waited for them to finish the song and he blew the candle.

My Treasure Bag

Three more days... ah.
Let's see what are the checked items in my luggage, other than the necessities.

Just 7 more days…

... to start afresh in a foreign country.

I remember the last time that I lived outside, away from my family, was more than four years ago. The furthest that I had been living away from home was Malacca but I made it a point to travel back home every weekend. I wonder how frequent can I go home after this; once a fortnight? Or, once a month? I am pretty sure that I will be travelling back every weekend for the first month as my little brother would be sitting for his SPM soon and his Additional Mathematics is just... ummm... yeah :D I have been coaching him every other day for the past one month.

Ughh... I am experiencing mixed feelings as the day gets closer.

One question that people would often first ask when they knew that I would be working abroad is, "Aren't you nervous or scared of working alone in a foreign country?"

I recalled the day when I made my decision to embark my career in Singapore. The question of whether I would be nervous or scared did not even cross my mind. I am one who will mind her own business, does what she is supposed to do and takes every challenge that comes her way.
Now, when I think of it, I am not sure anymore.
Then again, I am so grateful that I have two parties behind me.
My family, for being ever so supportive although once in a while I would be discouraged a little when Pei Yee would say how much she'd miss me and when Mom would say how can I take care of myself when I am such a careless person.
The second person (you know who you are), for being there for me all the time and never blamed me for making this decision without at least discussing this with him. Back to the Question above, I would not have to think about it anymore now. I know that he will be there no matter what happens. Eeek, I'll stop for now. I'll reserve the appreciation for this second person for the coming post :p

Ahhh...
I will miss Mom's cooking.
I will miss Mom's nagging, "drink your green barley lah".
I will miss when World War III begins, at home or during dinner outside.
I will miss the time when all the 4 residents at home would vote against me in the "who's the slowest" poll.
I will miss the baby-sitting that I would get from Mom and CK when I'm sick.
I will miss the help that I would get from Bit-cha whenever I'm stuck at making cards, sewing, cooking, baking, etc.
I will miss the Timeout and Kinder Bueno bars from Ling-cha.
I will miss CK's dish-washing and car-wash services.
I will miss the badminton sessions with my ex-colleagues in Merimen and TRW (wah, so fast termed as ex-colleagues, haha).
I will miss the makan sessions with Hiew Ming.
I will miss the silly jokes Ying Ying and gang would often crack.
I will miss the yum-cha sessions with my dear ji-mui.

Project Mille Crepe – Step 5 of N

This is attempt #2!

I managed to find some time after work yesterday to prepare the crepes batter and vanilla pastry cream. There is probably nothing much to improve on the crepes batter. I was yawning non-stop while mixing the eggs, flour, sugar and salt. The challenging part this time was to ensure that the vanilla pastry cream would taste and look like vanilla pastry cream. When I was almost done with the pastry cream, I was quite excited as I could smell vanilla (duh!). I mean, I could sense that I am going to make it this time!

I was supposed to fry the crepes today but I had to stay back after work. Pei Yee agreed to help me, yay! I didn't want to leave the crepes batter and pastry cream overnight for another day. I told her that we should use the wok this time, instead of our good-old-sticky-pan. As soon as I got home after badminton, I rushed to the refrigerator to have a look at the finished result.

Vanilla Mille Crepe
Tadaa!

Thanks to my crafty sister, the crepes are not out-of-shape now but I think it's still a little thick. I was the first to taste the cake and hmmmm... I would rate my vanilla mille crepe at 5/10 this time, hehe. Should I make another Chocolate one next? Or should I wait till next Thursday to make two final vanilla mille crepe cakes? Hehe. I'll sleep on it tonight.

Good night, folks!

Introducing… Vanilla Extract!

Vanilla
Vanilla

*Clap clap*
PeiYee finally found some vanilla extract for me! Yay!
I searched high and lo whole of last week - been to Kajang's Giant and Tesco, Serdang's Jusco and a local bakery shop (though it was closed) but I just could not find any vanilla.

** Update: The chocolate mille crepe was a failure. This has been proven yesterday when Mom opened the fridge and yelled, "What's that roti canai doing in the fridge?"
Therefore, the next step will be to return to making crepes batter again, this time with vanilla!
