Happy Birthday, Miss Leow!

26 Jan

We make friends that we can get along with easily as we step into each phase of our life. And she is one such friend whom I knew since my first year in university.

I really could not recall how we got to know each other but it was probably because we had to pair up in a group for some kind of activity during the orientation day. There after, we ended up being in the same class after the orientation week. And magically… we were neighbors too! She stayed at the ground floor while I stayed in the first floor of an apartment. We would go to classes together each day until the final year, from Malacca to Cyberjaya. She is the bigger sister in the group, who would listen to your sorrows and provide her golden advices. You may joke with her as she never failed to amaze us with her big laugh but.. we, her housemates, who know her very well knows she can be very serious at times.

Her famous tag when being invited for supper?
I brushed my teeth already la!

How I missed those mischievous days when we would argue about the cutest lecturers and guys in the university, the dinner at our usual makan place in Bukit Beruang which we’d frequent almost 3 out of the 5 weekdays, the classes that only she and I would attend so that we could help others mark their attendance, the steamboat/makan party which we’d occasionally do at our apartment and the all-girls night chats once in a blue-moon. She was the first person whom I’d turn to whenever I had problems. She has sharp eyes like the wolf in Red Riding Hood too (you know what I mean :D)!

Happy Birthday, girl :-)
Hope you’ll find your cute guy real soon and come to me with your complains haha.

The Sleepy Head

18 Jan

So so so reluctant to drag myself out of bed this morning. It was probably because of the hectic weekend. However, there was never a hesitation to travel home to be able to sleep on my comfy bed (although I had to sleep on my brother’s bed last weekend) for just one night.

As soon as I reached Kajang in the wee hours, KC, Ling cha and I departed to Bukit Gasing in Petaling Jaya for a morning hike. We had this planned out as a training to prepare us for the task ahead – to conquer Mount Kinabalu, which is just around the corner. Alright, it’s more like MY training, because the Mr. is fit enough to go up anytime :p Back to Bukit Gasing! There were other hikers too besides the three of us – Hiew Ming and four friends of KC’s. It wasn’t as tough as I had been told, really. We had Hiew Ming as the guide. We could hardly catch up with her as she was like Speedy Gonzales! As I was hiking up with her (tried my very best to hold my breathe and follow her closely) while the rest were at the back, she shared some of her experiences from her Mount Kinabalu expeditions (two successful ones!). We completed the hike about an hour later and went to a nearby Mamak called Raju’s Banana Leaf Resturant to feed our growling stomachs.

In the afternoon, I got to savor Mom’s delicious cooking. She had laid six to seven dishes on the table (I think)! After that, we went to the hospital to visit our ailing aunt. We have been informed that she almost couldn’t make it pass the night the day before. It was a bliss that we did not receive any late night calls that day.

In the evening, KC and I joined our fellow ex-colleagues in TRW (Ying Ying and gang) for dinner and post-dinner yum-cha session. We were brought to a secluded area for dinner, somewhere near Ampang Lookout Point by our makan dai-lou (the big brother who usually brings us to various places that we’ve never been to, for food, who also happens to be the youngest guy in the group). The restaurant goes by the name, Veg Fish Farm Restaurant. Now that I am back from having my meal there, I googled and found many negative comments on the restaurant – the food quality is not worth the travelling effort and etc. I guess I can say that the seven of us enjoyed the food there and didn’t mind the travelling. We ordered kangkung belacan, tomyam, fish coated in salt, grilled lamb, salted egg calamari, mango kerabu, big clams (forgotten what flavor was it) and hmmm, what else? I loved the grilled lamb the most! Simply yummy. We were surprised when the bill came – RM 109+ in total – very cheap for the amount of food that we ordered, I must say. I did not manage to get any photos as I did not bring my faithful companion with me. I might just be able to link some photos when Ying Ying uploads hers (she was busy taking photos the whole night) :p
Next up, was a short yum-cha session at Ampang Lookout Point’s Gasoline and more chit-chatting.

On Sunday, KC and I attended my ex-team lead’s (from TRW) wedding luncheon in Puchong’s IOI Mall. I was very happy to be able to meet my ex-team mates and mentor at the luncheon. Looking at the bridegroom’s wedding photos made me smile, inside. The team lead who used to be ever so cool when being asked about the existence of his partner, is now kissing his bride on stage! Haha.

The weekend has finally come to an end..

What am I up to these days? I have been slowly editing some of the photos selectively. My notebook seems to run like a tortoise when doing photo editing nowadays. Hmm, most probably because of the huge processing needed for Raw files, which are at least 11mb of size, each. The photos were mostly taken during Christmas. I might just post some soon. Most of the photos that I am editing consist of 4-legged mammals, reptiles, amphibians, water, grass, trees and rocks, no 2-legged mammals. Hehe.

Missed Weddings

27 Dec

I recalled the three wedding dinners that I had to miss yesterday (26th Dec). Should I happen to be home, which one(s) should I attend? Haha.

Congratulations to Nur Hana, my secondary school Head Prefect, who tied her knot at Putrajaya. I was really touched to receive the invitation from her a month ago though we hadn’t been keeping in touch for more than a decade! Sorry for not being able to make it, my dear friend.

Another hearty congratulations goes to Syawallina, my primary school friend, whose dad is a family friend. I recalled how she and her dad, Mr. Azman would call me Mooi Mooi. Aiks.
Mom and Pei Yee represented me to her wedding luncheon instead.

Finally, congratulations to Pak Chin, my ex-colleague at Merimen.

I’d say… marriage, it is not an easy decision and requires fair amount of responsibilities. There must be at least some chemistry between the two to make it work. Hmm.. most importantly, the word “Marriage” does not give you goosebumps! Hehe.

Have a blissful marriage, the three of you :-)

The Dwarf Me

17 Dec

I am still in the office at the time of writing – just felt I should pen this down.

I have been working with this colleague in the past 4 months. I find it difficult to click with her during the first month, largely due to cross-culture communication issue. However, as time goes by, we can chat just about anything. I must admit that she has been sharing more than I do. We would greet each other Good Morning! when she arrives at her desk (I am always earlier than her). She would always call me for lunch. If I am going elsewhere after work, I would let her know so that we could travel in the MRT together. She would be so happy when she knows that she would not be travelling alone (she stays near the Changi Airport!). In the MRT, she would tell me about her partner, how much she missed him, how much she missed her family, how much she wished she could afford to bring them over to Singapore, how many support issues does she have for that day, etc.

She would sometimes handle something wrongly at work and get lectures from our manager. She would accept her mistakes immediately. She would stand up to defend herself when she feels it was not her mistake at all. She would accept suggestions and feedback openly. She is proud of herself even if she is not perfect. She is always wearing that sleepy look every morning as she sometimes work from home until the AM. However, she would always put up that smiley face whenever she speaks to me.

She has so much burden and commitment, although being the second in the family. She would not hesitate although she has to support her elder brother’s and parents’ living expenses.

I just feel so small in front of her.

Oh! And she calls me Hoong. Haha.

The Reunion

24 Oct

We managed to meet up for breakfast this morning and had a short chat. The last time we met was more than 2 months ago. She is none other than Hiew Ming, my ex-colleague, ex-supervisor, good friend cum big sister!
Well, maybe it’s not really a short chat because when I reached home after the breakfast, Mom asked: You ladies just sat at the Mamak for 2 hours?

Yeah. And I really enjoyed the conversation. It was great to listen to many of the news update from her and me, sharing my stories since I departed to Singapore 2 months back. I was very delighted to receive this gift from her..

The synopsis: This is the magical story of Santiago, a shepherd boy who dreams of travelling the world to seek the most wonderful treasures known to a man. From his home in Spain, he journeys to the markets of Tangiers and, from there, into the Egyptian desert, where a fateful encounter with the alchemist awaits him…

Reading ain’t my hobby since forever and she knows it :-) Actually.. there is always an exception, as long as the title catches my interest. It is a travelogue book of some sort. And the destination in the story is.. EGYPT!! The place that I have always been dreaming to visit someday. Why Egypt, some of you may ask. I love visiting relaxing and quiet places, like seaside and resorts but I am a big fan of architecture. I enjoy visiting places with mysterious stories to tell. If I was to choose between resorts and deserts, I would pick the latter :-) Besides Egypt, I wish I would have the opportunity to visit South Africa someday. Other than the big big attraction which is their safari, I have the urge to visit the less fortunate Africans and lend a helping hand. Well, ummm, maybe for a week or so? :D

End of story!
Lastly,.. this is to fulfill my promise to Miss Tan. Haha.
