The Weekender

22 Nov

The past week was quite hectic for me. I had a fair amount of workload and couldn’t be happier when Friday was finally coming!

So, I was supposed to go scout for an Asus netbook for Pei Yee but we decided to head to Raffles Place first. Remember I set a mission to capture all the 52 public artworks in Singapore? Raffles Place has at least three of them and to top it up, the weather was exceptionally good for photo shooting yesterday morning.

When work was done, it was time to go wander around the Riverwalk! As we were walking down the road, we noticed many muscular men and women. Ha. It was the Dragon Boat Festival at the Singapore River! We stopped by to join the spectators for a little while.

Ice-cream time! Yam roti, yummy!

Enough of fun. Next, we went to Suntec City as there was a small gadget fair. I was hoping that we may just get a good deal there but the fair was too small scaled and they did not have many brands. Guess what was happening next door? There was the Cosplay event! Cosplay stands for Costume Play. I didn’t know about Cosplay before this. It is an event where anime fans dress in colorful costumes to portray their favorite anime characters.

It was half past two in the afternoon and we thought, why not head to the Botanic Gardens? The Botanic Gardens was one of the place I’d like to visit when I first got D-zai. It did not live up to our expectation, as in.. we did not find many flora. But, it was probably because we did not finish touring the whole garden. We were tired and hungry, so we went back to City Hall to try Myanmar food, recommended by my colleague. I should visit the garden again to finish the other sections :D

It is a more peaceful and healthy day today! We went for an hour jog at Yishun Park in the morning.
Monday is here again.. 加油! But, it will only be a four-day week, yeah! I’m looking forward to be home too as I have not been home for three weeks now. Hmm.. what should I get for my brother (who is sitting for his SPM now) to boost his morale? Hehe..

I’ve got a faster PC!

16 Nov

Well, just.. one time more RAM. DUH!

I was finally given another old machine with 1GB RAM. Purchase order has been dispatched to the vendor for a 2GB stick. Back to waiting for another 2 more weeks for the RAM to arrive but.. heh, you know when you’re really desperate.. you can really feel the difference between a 512MB and a 1GB machine.

2012

15 Nov

It has been a while since we last visited the cinema. The lucky movie this time was.. 2012. I did not have any expectations at all prior to the movie. I wanted to enjoy the movie, that’s all. And.. I did.

Well, the movie was not exceptionally good and was quite draggy at the beginning. The movie showcases a great deal of family ties, reminds us to appreciate our loved ones, while we still can.

Back to the story.. I actually find it quite scary. I would have never imagined end of the world would be as disastrous as this. I think.. this is somewhat scientifically possible but let’s hope the galactic alignment does not happen in another few million years more :p

Enjoy the movie if you are planning to hit the cinema soon!

Recap

12 Nov

This weekend marks the third month since I left home to work in Singapore. How has life been treating me so far? It’s time I sit and ponder a little – career wise, financial terms, family, friends.

Is this what I have yearned for? Ehh, it’s not that there was huge sacrifices involved but sometimes when you just feel that you’re old enough and should not be wasting too much time, hence, you ought to recap once in a certain time span.

CAREER – Totally discouraging in the first two months. It was the first time I felt work is a nine to six thing. I had this in my mindset that I would not be renewing this contract when it ends next year August. Things started to pick up slowly. I began to feel that I am somewhat useful to the company. I found someone whom I can look upon at – a sales guy who is technically literate here and there. I was assigned to do what I wanted to do in my previous company – system/framework design. I am suddenly in charge of the system design task of a project which consists of another technical adviser who is based in Malaysia, a Project Manager and three other developers. The nine-to-six subconsciousness is slowly fading.

FINANCIAL – This was the main force that has driven me this far. Have I received the compensation that I have wanted? Hmm.. not yet. Maybe this is still too soon to gauge. Heck, I have already started to evaluate properties by visiting forums and show houses, continuously scout for new projects and increase my understanding on housing loans.
My fellow Starbucks kaki always ask one question: I don’t understand why you wanna buy a house. You already have a house that is not small at all.
I have always left him unanswered. But still he would drive me to some new property sites and start introducing them to me.
But, seriously… it’s like… a commitment. One other person may work to fund her thirst for travelling. Another may work to source money to complete their collection. I have both in my list but I felt that they can be done in the second half of my days. I want Mom to live in a house that I built (not literally). I want to contribute to the family.

FAMILY – I guess nothing much has changed here although I now see them twice a month for less than 48 hours each time. Maybe because I still get disturbed daily, without fail.

Conclusion – Am I happy?

My Dearest Ma Cha

09 Nov

She is 48 this year but to me, she is still the 30 plus aunty from a decade ago. To be honest, I always lost track to how old she is each year and I almost always go by current year minus 1961. Shhhh..

She is such a dear when it comes to juggling our daily activities/needs. Just tell her that you’re running low on shampoo, shower foam or facial cleanser, you’ll get it the next day. Sudden crave for laksa? No problem. She’ll take you to your usual laksa stall for breakfast the next morning. Don’t mention to her that you’re having sore throat or else some black-colored chinese herbal tea will appear in front of you. But.. mind you, she can be very fierce when you start to annoy her. Someone in the family knows it best :p

As such, we have never failed to surprise her on her birthday each year and we have always been putting up something different everytime.
